Beauty and the Beast CW: Maybe Too Modern?
12:56 PM |
Edit Post
It's easily known from my previous posts that I am a huge fan of the 80's TV version of BatB, created by Ron Koslow. It had a lot of heart, some cheese, and a brilliant modern take on the fairy tale with an incredible amount of imagination and fun. Then I got word of the CW wanting to do a remake of the series, which knowing the CW's not so great track record, I was a bit on the fence. Either they were gonna get it horribly wrong or incredibly right, there really is no middle ground.
Then we arrive to today, where due to Comic Con this weekend, an extended preview has been released. As I began to watch it, a feeling came over me. What is this feeling? Follow the cut.

Another new version of Beauty and the Beast... in French.

You like me as Beast, yes?
I can honestly say that I haven't fangirled for a new movie announcement in a while, so I will try and be as brief as I can. It seems they are making an adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, yet again, but a new completely French version. As far as my research goes adaptation wise, it has probably been since 1946 that a completely true to its origins version of BatB from its origin country has been made.
Sadly, this movie seems to be under wraps since I only found out about it through some IMDb research. But the cast truly looks phenomenal: Vincent Cassel (Black Swan) and Lea Seydoux (Midnight in Paris) play the leads along with Gerard Depardieu as Beauty's Father. It is directed by Christophe Gans (Silent Hill), which either could be awesome or full of fail - but I have my hopes.
With this, the possible Del Toro version and two new TV series, I am in Beauty and the Beast fangirl heaven!
What are your thoughts on these new versions? Excited, hating the idea or just bleh? Comment down below!
